Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to complete a piece of transfer business this summer that’s caught everyone off guard.

The Chelsea business in this summer transfer window is usually heavily reported in the media well before happening, but Friday’s rumours regarding Wolves star Pedro Neto has caused shock.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Wolves have accepted Chelsea’s bid to sign Neto, with a medical now booked. Apparently, the Blues will pay around £51m plus £2.5m in add-ons for the 24-year-old winger.

The Portuguese forward will be well known to supporters at Stamford Bridge because he’s had five impressive years at Wolves, albeit there’s been some injury problems along the way.

Wolves fans agree on Pedro Neto price

Many Wolves fans on social media are agreeing that it’s good business for them to be selling Neto for such a large price, largely due to his bad track record with injuries.

Here are some Wolves fans on X surprised at the potential cash windfall from Neto’s imminent transfer:

One fan said: “Perfect time to sell Neto, he’s one injury away from his value dropping (I’m surprised anyone has offered that anyway). It’s a risk that he stays fit and his value increases, but I don’t think we should be taking that risk.”

Another wrote: “About as high a fee we could expect for Neto I guess, in fact I’m surprised we are getting that much tbh. Hopefully we see some more through our door now.”

A third user posted: “As much as I’ll miss Neto… £60m for a player who’s played on average 15 games a season is crazy money…”

One supporter commented: “I said in the off season if Wolves were having to sell a marque player, Neto would probably my choice… A joy to watch and a real game changer, but £50m+ for a player for consistently misses half a season is hard to snub.”

Another shared: “A fully fit Pedro Neto is a £100m player, but he’s just not available often enough. Considering his injury record, he’s unavailable more than half the time, £51m isn’t bad at all.”

Chelsea have taken a gamble

If Neto stays fit and hits the ground running at Chelsea, there’s the potential for this deal to be utterly brilliant. It’s definitely the type of marquee addition that sends out a real statement.

He’s such a creative threat from wide positions, assisting nine time in just 20 Premier League matches last season.

However, the major risk when it comes to the talented individual is his track record to pick up frequent injury problems.

Neto’s played 135 games across all competitions during five years as a Wolves player. It’s worrying that it works out to an average of just 27 matches per season.
