Andy Jacobs was seriously unimpressed by Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher after his latest display this week.
The Blues suffered a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday night away to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup. Fortunately, the semi-final clash is a two-legged tie and the second leg against Boro takes place at Stamford Bridge later this month.
It was another off-night from Mauricio Pochettino’s side, something we’ve said too many times over the course of this season.
Conor Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s best players so far this campaign. Even the 23-year-old midfielder had a frustrating 90 minutes, though.

TalkSPORT pundit Andy Jacobs criticised Gallagher following his midweek cup performance. In particular, he highlighted the Chelsea captain’s passing for being incredibly sloppy.
“There’s a lot of talk about Conor Gallagher. His heart is in the right place, he puts in a shift, but he gave the ball away so many times [against Middlesbrough]. You sit there thinking, ‘oh stop it!’,” Jacobs told talkSPORT.
Conor Gallagher’s poor passing
In fairness, Gallagher’s more of an all-action central midfielder rather than a technician with precise passing.
The England international does have talent with the ball at his feet, but it’s an area of his game where he can improve and be more effective.
He’s still deservedly in the best XI right now for industrious work and effort.
The Independent claimed earlier this week that Chelsea could sell Gallagher for £50million amid firm interest from Tottenham this month. However, it would be a huge crime to get rid of him when he’s so often the best thing about the Blues midfield.
Pochettino’s side have far greater issues with their side right now than Gallagher!
