Simon Jordan doesn’t think Mauricio Pochettino is the right man to become Chelsea’s next permanent manager.
Chelsea, who sacked Graham Potter last week, have replaced him with Frank Lampard on a temporary basis.
The Blues have welcomed Lampard back to the club as the caretaker manager until the end of the season, so there is still a mystery around who will sit in the dugout beyond the summer.
Mauricio Pochettino is one of several high-profile managers linked to the role at Stamford Bridge.
According to the Daily Mail earlier this week, Chelsea are planning to open talks with Pochettino about becoming their next permanent boss.
TalkSPORT pundit Jordan does admire Pochettino as a coach, but has doubts over whether he’s the right fit for Chelsea.
The 51-year-old Argentine is currently available after leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
“I don’t think it’s a marriage made in heaven. That being said, I’ve never believed that Pochettino has the winning gene. I think he’s a really good manager, I think he’ll get you to a certain level,” Jordan told talkSPORT.
“… There’s something about Pochettino that just tells me he doesn’t have this ruthless streak that someone like [Thomas] Tuchel had and someone like obviously the great Alex Ferguson had and [Jose] Mourinho has. This inability to see anything other than just winning at all costs.”
We agree that Pochettino is a very good manager. In fact, he’s one of the stronger candidates we’ve heard linked.
However, does the former Spurs boss have what it takes to battle the elite at Chelsea? Would he be truly accepted by supporters, too?
There is so many risks around him that it would be a gutsy decision from the owners to appoint him next season.
The fact Jordan suggests there may be a ceiling on Pochettino’s success is a point worth considering.
