It’s a special feeling for Chelsea supporters when they see a youngster from the academy make their debut in the first team.

The Chelsea academy has been hugely successful in developing future stars in recent decades. For example, Blues duo Levi Colwill and Reece James both progressed through the youth system at Cobham before becoming recognised senior players.

Enzo Maresca impressed Chelsea’s owners with knowledge of the academy when he interviewed for the position as the Blues head coach in the summer. It’s fair to say that his appointment at Stamford Bridge has been a success so far.

It’s fantastic that 11 academy graduates made their senior debuts for the Blues during the calendar year of 2024.

11 academy graduates who made their senior Chelsea debut in 2024

Michael Golding: Michael Golding made his first-team debut for Chelsea back on 6 January in a FA Cup win over Preston, featuring as a last-minute substitute. However, the 18-year-old midfielder was sold to Leicester City in the summer.

Leo Castledine: It was certainly a busy 2024 for Leo Castledine, who made his Chelsea debut on 23 January against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup. The 19-year-old attacker is currently enjoying a season-long loan in League One with Shrewsbury.

Chelsea youngster Castledine is delighted with his loan spell so far, but will it pusher him closer to the main group at Stamford Bridge?

Cesare Casadei: It was during the Premier League defeat away to Liverpool on 31 January that Cesare Casadei, 21, made his senior debut for Chelsea.

Leicester City have enquired about signing Chelsea midfielder Casadei, so it looks like he could be on the move in the January window.

Jimi Tauriainen: It’s been a frustrating 2024 for Blues prospect Jimi Tauriainen, who’s currently recovering from a long-term injury. But if there’s one big positive from last year, it’s that he made his Chelsea debut back on 2 May against Tottenham in the Premier League.

Josh Acheampong: The transfer speculation in recent months suggested that Josh Acheampong could leave Chelsea, but he’s recently signed a new deal and been fully integrated into the first-team dressing room.

Like Tauriainen, his first senior minutes came against Spurs in the league last season. The 18-year-old defender is becoming a more regular pick in the main squad, though.

Tyrique George: Tyrique George made his senior Chelsea debut on 29 August in a Conference League qualifier against Servette. He’s another academy graduate that has been welcomed into the first-team squad by Maresca.

Chelsea star Jadon Sancho is certainly very excited by the potential of the 18-year-old winger. Sancho claims Chelsea’s George has the “world at his feet”.

Sam Rak-Sakyi: Blues midfielder Sam Rak-Sakyi, 19, made the first of his four senior appearances this season in a Conference League group stage match versus Noah on 7 November.

Ato Ampah: 18-year-old Chelsea striker Ato Ampah made his Chelsea debut on 12 December in the Conference League group stages against Astana.

Shumaira Mheuka: Like Ampah, Chelsea’s 17-year-old striker Shumaira Mheuka made his debut versus Astana last month.

Kiano Dyer: Chelsea midfielder Kiano Dyer, 18, made it a hat-trick of academy graduates to make their senior debuts in Europe against Astana.

Harrison Murray-Campbell: Finally, 18-year-old defender Harrison Murray-Campbell made his debut in the Conference League against Shamrock Rovers.
