Leicester make enquiry about ‘physically strong’ Chelsea player as they look to re-sign him

A lot is made in the media about the size of Chelsea’s first-team group, so will we see some players leave this month to trim down the numbers?

Overall, Enzo Maresca has done a great job managing the Chelsea squad in the first half of the season, sharing the minutes where possible.

However, there’s still some senior individuals at Stamford Bridge that are struggling for consistent starts.

Clinton Morrison has encouraged Chelsea to make signings during the January transfer window. Blues fans may have their eyes peeled to see if there’s any outgoings, though.

Leicester enquire about Cesare Casadei

According to The Daily Mail, Premier League side Leicester City are one of the clubs to enquire about signing Chelsea’s Cesare Casadei in the January window.

It is explained that Leicester, Torino, Monza and Lazio have all initiated contact for the 21-year-old Blues midfielder.

Torino have made an opening bid for Chelsea youngster Casadei, which includes a buy-back clause.

The Italian talent has only made six first-team appearances across all competitions this season, so it’s pretty obvious that he’s quite far down the pecking order in West London.

Maresca has praised Chelsea’s Casadei this campaign by calling him “physically strong” and hailing his improvement in possession. However, it’s hard for him to get much of a look-in when the competition for places is so high in the centre of the park.

Should Cesare Casadei re-sign for Leicester?

Casadei previously spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Leicester, where he played under Maresca in the Championship. Now, a potential return to the King Power Stadium may be on the cards, but he’d be linking up with new Foxes boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.

If we were advising Casadei, we’d tell him to seek a move to one of the interested Italian clubs rather than a return to the East Midlands.

Leicester, who are in the thick of a relegation battle in the Premier League, desperately need reinforcements to their squad. But they’re crying out for defensive additions rather than more central midfielders. In fact, they’re quite strong in the middle with the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Boubakary Soumare.

Casadei needs to go and ensure he plays regular first-team action somewhere, which may not be a guarantee in Leicester colours.
