It looked as if Chelsea were going to be announcing the addition of a new striker to their ranks this week ahead of the return of Premier League action.

Reports had stated that a deal had been agreed to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid, with Conor Gallagher going in a deal the other way.

However, the latter has been thrown into doubt after it has been claimed the deal for the striker has collapsed at the final moment.

It has already been reported that the Blues have changed their priority from Omorodion to Victor Osimhen, with him being another long-term target of the club.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea pursue a deal for Joao Felix instead, with him being linked with a sensational return due to Atletico’s need to sell a player this summer.

However, Omorodion could still be on the move himself. Ryan Taylor has claimed that an unnamed Premier League side have now registered interest in bringing the young striker in.

He said: “Understand an unnamed Premier League club has also shown interest in Samu Omorodion overnight & there will be further discussions today to determine whether the player is interested in joining.”

Nicolas Jackson likely to start vs Manchester City

The fact that no striker looks imminent to move to Stamford Bridge means that Nicolas Jackson is likely to start the season up top when Manchester City visit at the weekend.

There is also the option of Marc Guiu, who was named as a starter for nearly every game of pre-season after Jackson’s injury woes.

It remains to be seen if a deal is struck to bring in Felix instead, with Chelsea supporters seemingly not convinced that a deal for the Portugal international is what they need at this time.

Whether Felix joins or not, Chelsea fans can be sure that they are in for a busy end to the transfer window that they may not have been expecting 24 hours ago.
