Fabrizio Romano anticipates Chelsea to fire up fresh contract talks with Thiago Silva very soon.

Speaking on the House of Champions channel, Romano revealed his expectations for the Stamford Bridge chain of command to offer the defender a new deal.

It was only in January when Silva extended his stay in South West London by another 12-months.

The 38-year-old committed to the cause until at least the end of the current campaign, to the joy of pretty much everyone associated with the club.

Despite his age, the Brazil international has been of the most consistent, reliable and available Chelsea players since his move from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.

He recently racked up 100 appearances for the Blues in the 2-0 victory over Bournemouth.

Could Thiago Silva stay at Chelsea even longer?

Silva has started 12 of the 17 Premier League fixtures so far this term, a signal of his significant status in the side.

A position that could be prolonged by another season if the board decided to reward the centre-back with another contract extension.

“Chelsea are having conversations with some of them (players with expiring contracts). For example, Thiago Silva. They love Thiago Silva, they love how are they playing, they love his impact in the dressing room,” explained Romano.

“So, I expect them to have more conversations with Thiago Silva in the next weeks.

“In the Chelsea board, they love Thiago Silva. So, I think he has a chance to continue.”

It would be some statement if the nearly 40-year-old Silva can receive a fresh look on his £96,000-a-week deal and some his younger teammates cannot.

N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are both at a crossroads in their Chelsea career, whilst Denis Zakaria’s loan move is not likely to be turned permanent.

Then there’s the likes of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Cesar Azpilicueta and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, all who’s allegiance to the Blues runs out in 2024.

Todd Boehly and his crew are certainly going to be busy bees in the next few months.
