Report: Chelsea see player Conte signed as a ‘legend’, he may now sign new contract to stay

Reports have claimed that Chelsea view N’golo Kante as a legend at the club.

According to The Athletic, the admiration they have for the Frenchman has seen them reach a position where they are confident he will stay at the club.

There had been real doubts that the 31-year-old was to extend his contract with Chelsea to take his career beyond the end of this campaign.

The situation has been the same with fellow important midfielder Jorginho, whose current deal also expires at the end of the season. Recent reports have claimed that there is also a growing confidence from his camp that he may stay.

Kante has hardly featured during this season, after coming off injured in the second league game of the season against Tottenham.

This has resulted in new manager Graham Potter being unable to utilise him since he joined the club.

His concerning injury record had seemingly put doubt in Todd Boehly’s mind that he could offer the France international a deal that he desired, with his wages close to the top of the club’s list.

However, The Athletic have claimed that a combination of his achievements and popularity off the pitch have seen him achieve legendary status with the club.

While there is new optimism over the pair staying at Stamford Bridge, it hasn’t seemed to affect their approaches to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

The Portuguese side are under the impression that Chelsea could trigger his release clause comfortably, making it difficult for them to keep hold of him despite their desire.

The Blues are currently looking to beat their rivals to the deal by getting a deal done in January, instead of waiting until the free-for-all of the summer transfer window.
