Carney Chukwuemeka looks set to be on his way out of Chelsea in the final hours of the January transfer window to join German club Borussia Dortmund.

Carney Chukwuemeka, 21, has been on the fringes of the Chelsea squad so far this season. In fact, he’s only played five first-team games across all competitions because he’s quite far down the pecking order.

Therefore, it’s no major surprise that the creative midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Blues in the January window.

Borussia Dortmund agreed to sign Chelsea youngster Chukwuemeka over the weekend, so everyone’s now waiting for an official announcement on Monday’s deadline day.

How much Borussia Dortmund will pay to loan Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea are set to complete a deal for Chukwuemeka to join Dortmund on loan for the rest of the 2024/25 season.

Apparently, the English talent has already completed his medical in Germany ahead of his move to the Bundesliga.

The report says that Chukwuemeka only wanted to join Dortmund despite links to rival suitors such as Porto, West Ham United and Everton in the mid-season window.

In addition, Dortmund will pay around €2m (£1.7m) to sign the Chelsea attacking midfielder on loan. It is stated that they can activate a buy-option clause in his deal, which is worth around £40m.

Chelsea’s Chukwuemeka should hope to emulate Ian Maatsen, who had a great loan spell with Dortmund last season before leaving Stamford Bridge permanently to join Aston Villa. Ultimately, it’ll be great news for the player if he can can back to playing regular football again after a frustrating time lately in West London.

What Noni Madueke said about Carney Chukwuemeka last summer

Fans will be aware that Chukwuemeka is certainly an emerging talent with loads of potential, but there’s just not been a pathway into Enzo Maresca’s side for him.

Speaking back in June 2024, Madueke raved about Chelsea teammate Chukwuemeka. He said: “When he’s fully fit, he’s a problem for teams. So I can’t wait until next season for him to be fit from the start of the season and just show everyone what he can do.”

Unfortunately, Blues head coach Maresca has been reluctant to throw the 21-year-old star into the side, even though the team has been crying out for some fresh impetuous in the last month.

We’re confident that Chukwuemeka can shine in German football when he’s given the platform by Dortmund.
