Tim Sherwood insists underrated Chelsea player doesn’t get the credit that he deserves

Tim Sherwood has explained that one Chelsea player is underrated and that he doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves.

Based off the early stages of the season, Chelsea are beginning to click into gear and find some rhythm.

Enzo Maresca will have known he was inheriting a talented squad when he took charge as the head coach at Stamford Bridge in the summer, but there’s so many question marks around them succeeding with such a young group.

So far, the Blues have 10 points from five games in the Premier League. Maresca has won his opening three league away matches, becoming the first manager to do that since Pep Guardiola in 2016.

Tim Sherwood gives Nicolas Jackson his flowers

Tim Sherwood has delivered a glowing verdict on Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson following his outstanding performance at the weekend away to West Ham. The 23-year-old Blues striker scored two goals and created an assist in a 3-0 success on the road.

According to Sherwood, Chelsea’s frontman doesn’t get the widespread praise that he actually deserves.

When discussing Jackson on The Kelly & Wrighty Show, Sherwood said: “This boy now is growing in stature. He has got the attributes. Can’t continue liking players to Didier Drogba. He was a one-off at that club. Someone needs to come and take the mantle.

“I think the confidence he has been given by this manager, the chances what he is being created by Cole Palmer and the like, I think he will score a lot of goals.

“We never give him the credit that he deserves. You have to look at his goalscoring record. He’s scoring goals. He’s up there in the charts. No one’s going to catch [Erling] Haaland unless something drastic happens to him, but he’s up there with everyone else in the Premier League.”

Nicolas Jackson responds to Christopher Nkunku challenge

Chelsea are fortunate to have some excellent competition for places all over the squad, particularly in the attacking positions. In terms of the No.9 position, it’s Jackson or Christopher Nkunku.

Many Chelsea fans wanted Nkunku promoted to start against West Ham after he came off the bench to score the winning goal against Bournemouth the weekend before.

Maresca decided to stick with Jackson in the starting line-up again versus West Ham, which is a decision that was certainly vindicated with his man of the match performance.

We expect Nkunku to get plenty of minutes this campaign, especially because of all the various cup competitions, but Jackson has the starting striker position locked down for now in the Premier League.
