Mauricio Pochettino has now confirmed that one of his Chelsea players have just undergone a scan on a recent injury they have suffered.

He claimed in his pre-match press conference that they should know more today on the extent of the injury suffered by Robert Sanchez, and if he is expected to be out for a prolonged period of time.

Sanchez has not been seen since the defeat to Everton, where he was forced off in the second half.

It was believed that he had been playing injured, with him expected to have even been replaced in the previous game too.

Up until then, the Spaniard had been an ever-present in the side this season, to mixed reviews from the majority of the fanbase.

Pochettino has now given the latest the club know on when he is likely to be fit again for the Blues.

He said: “We saw him, he came from a scan. We need to see the doctors and assess. Today we will have a clear idea. No, no, no [surgery]. It’s the pace of the evolution and how he can improve from doing treatment to starting on the pitch.”

This problem has given Djordje Petrovic his opportunity to impress the manager, which it is fair to say he has taken up to now.

The 24-year-old has made a number of good saves since coming into the side, including one which saw him nominated for save of the month in the Premier League for December.

Supporters would therefore be hard pushed to say that they would actually be happy with Pochettino if he made the decision to start Sanchez straight away again if Petrovic’s form continues.
