Todd Boehly fuming with Chelsea for how they’ve treated £50m player

There seems to be a lot of tension at Chelsea right now between Todd Boehly and other boardroom members.

And one reason is reportedly because of how Chelsea treated one of their players during the summer, which has left Todd Boehly far from happy.

The Blues have been criticised for their handling of several stars, with the club freezing out the likes of Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah.

The first of that trio is now at Arsenal for the season. Former Chelsea midfielder Jorginho admitted he was surprised by Sterling’s transfer.

Todd Boehly not happy with Raheem Sterling treatment

Sterling struggled at Chelsea before his loan move to Arsenal on deadline day. For example, the £50m winger could only manage six league goals in his first year at the club.

Even so, it does not look like Boehly was pleased with how Chelsea handled Sterling’s situation this summer.

In fact, according to HITC, the American was less than happy with the club’s treatment of the 29-year-old.

Sterling only joined Arsenal on a season-long loan, so he could return in 2025. But the England international remaining at Stamford Bridge seems very unlikely, given the attacking options Chelsea currently have and how he was pushed out.

It has been claimed that Behdad Eghbali was the driving force behind Sterling’s departure.

Todd Boehly fought a losing battle over Raheem Sterling

It is not quite clear what exactly Boehly is upset about, but if the 50-year-old wanted Sterling to stay at the club this season, then he was fighting a losing battle.

Enzo Maresca made it clear that Sterling is not the type of winger he likes, while Chelsea brought in other players who can play in his position.

Ultimately, having added Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto to their squad, Chelsea had to sacrifice someone. Unfortunately for Boehly, who was interim sporting director at the time Sterling was brought to the club, that someone was the England international.
