It was disappointing to see Chelsea drop points at Old Trafford this weekend in the Premier League, but a few of their players still managed to impress versus Manchester United.

Chelsea walked away with a point after a 1-1 league draw away to Man United on Sunday.

Noussair Mazraoui claims Man United deserved to beat Chelsea, but it was a pretty even contest between the English giants.

Troy Deeney blown away by Chelsea star Moises Caicedo vs Manchester United

BBC pundit Troy Deeney was amazed by the individual performance from Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo against Man United a couple of days ago.

He thinks that the 23-year-old midfielder was “miles better” than usual on Sunday during his best ever display for the Blues, which included a stunning volleyed goal to equalise.

When naming Caicedo in his Premier League Team of the Week, Deeney told BBC Sport: “His performance in Chelsea’s draw at Manchester United was arguably his best game for the club. I know people think it is about his goal – and it was a wonderful strike – but he was all over the place, putting his foot in, making loads of fouls, ratty tackles. He got on the ball more too and was braver, playing it forward. I thought he was miles better than he has been.”

The truth is that regular Chelsea watchers will know Caicedo has been operating at a very high level for several months. It’s only now that he’s beginning to get some wider appreciation.

Chelsea’s hierarchy is delighted with the development of Caicedo, who’s now looking like one of the very first names on the team sheet.

It’s been noticeable that Caicedo’s game looks even stronger now he’s got teammate Romeo Lavia starring alongside him in the centre of the park.

The new-look midfield combination has started the last three consecutive Premier League matches together, where both have been superb in and out of possession. Unfortunately, it’s resulted in Enzo Fernandez dropping down to the bench.

Here is a look at how WhoScored rated Caicedo in the previous three league games:

Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea7.95
Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle United7.47
Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea6.96

Paul Scholes admitted he would’ve loved playing alongside Chelsea’s Caicedo, which is some praise from one of the Premier League’s greatest ever midfielders.

Based off the opening few months of the season, Caicedo is in the thick of the conversation for Chelsea’s most important player alongside Cole Palmer. His aim now should be to keep up the consistently brilliant performances, especially in the big fixtures.
