After plenty of transfer speculation over the summer, Tyrique George ended up staying put at Chelsea. Does he have a long-term future at Stamford Bridge, though?
Tyrique George, 19, is a skilful winger who graduated from the Chelsea academy, but he faces huge competition for a starting role.
Even though Fulham agreed to buy George in the summer window, the deal ended up breaking down on deadline day.
In fairness, he’s stayed with Enzo Maresca’s senior group and featured so far this season. The reality is that he’s competing alongside some expensive and high-profile teammates in the wide areas of the pitch.
| Competition | Appearances (Starts) | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 3 (0) | 0 | 0 |
| Champions League | 1 (1) | 0 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 1 (1) | 1 | 1 |

Tyrique George expected to leave Chelsea
According to Sky Sports, George is ‘likely’ to depart Stamford Bridge when the January transfer window comes around.
It is explained that multiple teams in the Champions League and Europa League wanted the 19-year-old attacker in the summer plus a switch to local rivals Fulham came very close to happening.
George was ‘really sad’ that he failed to leave Chelsea because he’s keen to go elsewhere and play regular first-team football. It sounds like he may still get that opportunity in the New Year.
We’ve seen him cover as an emergency centre-forward at times for the Blues, but he’s a fast and tricky left-winger by trade.
Unfortunately for George, Chelsea now have Alejandro Garnacho, Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian competing with him in the wide attacking positions. Don’t forget that Cole Palmer can operate from that right flank, too.

What Enzo Maresca has said about Tyrique George this season
Blues head coach Maresca deserves credit for keeping George involved with the group after his summer disappointment.
Last month, Maresca praised George’s contribution at Chelsea. The Chelsea boss said: “We already gave Tyrique George last year some confidence. This year, even Manchester United and Fulham in the second half, he’s playing games and helping us.”
It feels like the writing is on the wall for the academy graduate’s future at the club, but he’s still a useful option to have in reserve ahead of a busy schedule during the remainder of 2025.
