While several Chelsea stars are currently away on international duty, Alejandro Garnacho is settling into his new surroundings at Cobham. In fact, Blues defender Wesley Fofana said something hilarious after seeing his new teammate during his first week in training.

After weeks of transfer speculation, Chelsea finally completed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho on a permanent basis from Manchester United late in the window.

The 21-year-old winger arrives at Stamford Bridge with plenty of experience under his belt. In 144 first-team appearances for Man Utd, he scored 26 goals and created 22 assists. He’ll now be looking to break into Enzo Maresca’s starting line-up, but faces plenty of competition for places in attack.

Paul Scholes has tipped Garnacho to succeed at Chelsea despite the mixed reaction from supporters, so it’s now up to the player to do his talking on the pitch.

Wesley Fofana’s hilarious reaction to Alejandro Garnacho in training

In a video uploaded on Chelsea’s official app (4 September), Garnacho was captured being put through his paces during his first training drills at his new club.

In particular, Garnacho and fellow new Chelsea signing Facundo Buonanotte took part in what looked like quite an intense running exercise outside. In response, Blues defender Wesley Fofana clearly had little sympathy for his teammate: He said: “Welcome to Chelsea Football Club.”

Garnacho later said after the running drill: “I can’t move my legs now, man.”

Fofana, 24, knows all about the training ground because he’s spent a lot of his Chelsea career so far injured and rehabilitating. The good news is that he’s featured in all three matchday squads this season, playing once in the win against West Ham.

Troy Deeney massively rates Fofana, claiming he’s one of the world’s best centre-backs when fit, so supporters are desperate for him to sort out his fitness.

We’re keen to see if Fofana and Garnacho force their way into Chelsea’s best XI as the season progresses.

Can Alejandro Garnacho eclipse last season’s numbers?

Garnacho, who’s taken the No.49 shirt, joins the Chelsea group as an exciting option on the left wing.

On paper, Garnacho and Jamie Gittens will be fighting it out for the starting spot on the left flank. We’ve seen in the opening weeks of the season that versatile attacker Pedro Neto can operate from the left, too.

Last season, Garnacho produced a decent attacking output for a poor Man Utd side.

The Argentine forward managed 21 direct goal contributions in 58 games across all competitions last term at Old Trafford. We would hope that he can improve on those numbers in a stronger Chelsea outfit, but, of course, he may need some time to settle at a new home.
