In the early stages of the new season at Chelsea, there has been one positive that has not revolved around the results on the pitch.

Wesley Fofana has started all three Premier League games this season, coming off the back of a campaign where he didn’t kick a ball due to injury.

He has featured alongside Levi Colwill at the back, who has praised the Frenchman already for his impact on the side this season.

Fofana told French media that he would love to play for Marseille one day, with them being the team he supported when he was younger.

The defender even claimed that he had had a conversation with them over the summer, however no move got close.

Chelsea waiting to see the best out of Wesley Fofana

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea are saying internally that they believe a sale is not possible, with them waiting to see the best out of him.

He said: “Internally at Chelsea, they believe the best is yet to come from Wesley Fofana and a summer exit was never considered.”

The bonus the Blues have from offering their new signings long-term contracts is that they have the final say when it comes to whether players can move on.

Enzo Maresca seems to be a big fan of Fofana, and the club are taking steps to protect him so he can deliver at the top level for a prolonged period of time.

Fofana left out of Conference League squad

This has included not being selected in the squad for the Conference League group stages, with the opportunities instead going to some of the younger contingent on the fringe of first team football.

Those chances could come for the likes of Kiano Dyer, however some players who were left out of the squad will likely be even more frustrated.

This is the case for Ben Chilwell, who was expecting opportunities to come in this competition.
