What Chelsea’s ownership actually plan to do now Jose Mourinho is available

If Jose Mourinho is thinking about returning to Chelsea for a third spell, then he may have to forget about it.

Jose Mourinho is looking for a new job after being sacked by AS Roma yesterday.

With his former club Chelsea not doing so well in the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino is under a bit of pressure. However, according to 90min, the Chelsea owners want to be patient with the Argentine, making Mourinho coming in to replace him unlikely.

The outlet states that the 60-year-old taking over at either Chelsea or Newcastle United would be “highly surprising” and there is nothing concrete at this stage.

With the Blues determined to stick with Pochettino despite his side sitting in ninth, there is no path back to Stamford Bridge for Mourinho for now.

Should Chelsea drop into the bottom half of the table, though, you would have to fear for Pochettino, especially with the Special One now hovering about.

There is not really a reason for Mourinho to say no to returning to Chelsea if the opportunity presented itself.

He was sacked by the club in 2015, which would have hurt, but that was a long time ago and under a different regime. A lot of time has passed since then and the Blues are now owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, not Roman Abramovich.

It does not look like that opportunity will present itself, though, with Chelsea’s new owners looking to give Pochettino time, which the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss probably deserves.

Chelsea have had so many injury problems this season; that has to be taken into account when assessing Pochettino’s work. Still, you cannot help but feel that his team should be doing a little bit better in the Premier League.
