What Conor Gallagher will now do at Chelsea after returning from Madrid

Chelsea’s plans for the rest of the summer transfer window seem to have been hit with a real shake-up.

There was an expectation that Conor Gallagher would have completed his move to Atletico Madrid by now, after it was decided he would not remain with the club this season.

It had even been reported that Atletico staff had been wowed by Gallagher in training with the players who weren’t off training in pre-season.

However, a late collapse of Chelsea’s signing of Samu Omorodion has seemed to throw the midfielder’s deal into doubt too, with him being left in limbo over what his future will look like.

With him seemingly banished from the first team picture at Stamford Bridge, there looks very little chance that a return could be on the cards.

Gallagher to train with Chelsea U21s

This is only further enhanced by the fact journalist Marcos Benito has claimed that he is set to join up with the U21 squad for training this week.

He said: “Gallagher will start training with Chelsea U21s from tomorrow while his future is sorted out. Negotiations with Atleti will continue from England.”

Chelsea will be hoping that an agreement can be reached between the two clubs that keeps the move alive, given the fact Gallagher is entering the last year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea looking at Joao Felix

They may be able to do this by signing another player from Atletico. Reports have linked the Blues with a move for Joao Felix after his loan with the club in 2023.

Chelsea fans are not convinced Felix is the profile they need at the club, with many believing an outright striker is more what they are looking for to strengthen their side.

The Blues continue to be linked with a move for Victor Osimhen, with them perhaps more confident a deal can be struck after learning of Napoli’s interest in signing Romelu Lukaku.
