What Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall did to Pedro Neto after Chelsea’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Pedro Neto were both seen with each other after the full-time whistle in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

While Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was only named as a substitute at Villa Park, Pedro Neto started the game and managed to make a positive impact.

The winger helped Chelsea to take an early lead after setting up Enzo Fernandez in the ninth minute. His assist proved to be in the vain, though, with Marco Asensio scoring twice to turn things around for Aston Villa and give Unai Emery’s men all three points.

Enzo Maresca praised Neto after the match, claiming that the 24-year-old played “really well”.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall consoles Pedro Neto at full-time

Dewsbury-Hall never came on in Chelsea’s loss against Villa and has barely been used by Maresca this season.

In total, the midfielder has made just one start in the Premier League. After being overlooked again, Dewsbury-Hall could have just sulked and gone down the tunnel after the full-time whistle.

Instead, the Englishman tried to console a disappointed Neto after the Portuguese’s brilliant shift at Villa Park, a scene caught by Athletic journalist Simon Johnson.

Dewsbury-Hall’s dream is to play for England, but it is a dream that the former Leicester City man is unlikely to achieve during this campaign following his lack of minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Despite having only joined Chelsea last July, you would now expect Dewsbury-Hall to leave west London in the summer in a bid to gain more minutes on the pitch.

What Pedro Neto did more times than any other player in Chelsea’s defeat to Aston Villa

Chelsea signed Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £54m last summer. Big things were expected of the Portugal international.

He had a huge price tag and arrived at Stamford Bridge as one of the most threatening wide attackers in the Premier League. However, Neto has not quite lived up to expectations yet.

But he was amazing against Villa, putting up some very good numbers. For example, to go with his assist, Neto also managed to register four key passes. No player on the pitch managed to record more.

Going forward, Maresca needs to see more of that Neto. If he does, then Chelsea should improve offensively, especially once first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson returns from injury.
