It is fair to say that Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino really enjoyed his side’s triumph over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup yesterday.
Chelsea beat Newcastle 4-2 on penalties after the game finished 1-1, with Mykhailo Mudryk scoring a last-minute equaliser for the home team.
It looked like the Blues were going out, but they managed to turn things around and Mauricio Pochettino could not hold in his delight, screaming “vamos” into the camera after Newcastle’s elimination, according to Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella.
Chelsea will find out their semi-final opponents tonight after Liverpool and West Ham United’s game at Anfield.
Pochettino’s men return to Premier League duty on Sunday when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Mauricio Pochettino can win over Chelsea fans
Chelsea are 10th in the table and have been very inconsistent this season.
Pochettino is also a former Tottenham Hotspur manager who was unable to win anything in his previous stint in England.
Ultimately, there are going to be Chelsea supporters who have doubts about the Argentine. However, there is no reason why he cannot win such ones over.
More nights like the one the Blues just had and an eventual return to Europe, and you can easily see fans starting to appreciate him a bit more.
Pochettino is obviously a good coach and his sides can be quite entertaining. You only have to look at Chelsea’s 4-4 draw with Manchester City last month to know that.
He now needs to start picking up wins in the Premier League, though that is now going to have to be done without first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, whom the 51-year-old expects to be out for a while.
Djordje Petrovic, who managed to save a penalty in the shootout against Newcastle, now has a good opportunity, however. This is his chance to show Pochettino that he should be the team’s No.1.
