Chelsea supporters may have tuned in this week to see future star Geovany Quenda in action for Sporting CP against Kairat Almaty in the Champions League.
Geovany Quenda, who’s aged just 18, will officially make his move to Chelsea next summer. Until then, the exciting winger is still playing in Portugal with Sporting as he continues his rapid development.
He played 90 minutes on Thursday night as Sporting secured a 4-1 victory at home to Kazakhstan club Kairat in the group phase of the Champions League. In fact, Quenda scored a brilliant solo goal to underline his obvious quality on the European stage.
Quenda’s aim at Chelsea is to break into the first team immediately when he joins for the 2026/27 campaign.
The speedster is showing the kind of form in the Sporting first team that suggests he’s ready to make his mark at Stamford Bridge already. Despite his youth, he’s played 61 senior matches for Portuguese giants Sporting since a promotion from their academy.

Portuguese media hail Geovany Quenda after Champions League performance
After Quenda’s eye-catching display against Kairat, Portuguese newspaper A Bola delivered a glowing verdict on the Sporting teenager.
They wrote: “Geovany Quenda (7/10) – Unpredictable. A feast for the eyes whenever he faces an opponent head-on, as it’s difficult to predict which dribble will come. In this match, almost all of them were perfect, combined with an unusual tactical acumen for his age. He set up Alisson for the goal and scored the fourth (worth watching…) in a move in which he ‘killed’… Luis Mata.”
Quenda, who is highly rated by Nani, can prove a point to Chelsea if he continues to impress in the Champions League.
Here is a look at Sporting’s remaining fixtures in the group phase:
- Napoli (Away)
- Marseille (Home)
- Juventus (Away)
- Club Brugge (Home)
- Bayern Munich (Away)
- Paris Saint-Germain (Home)
- Athletic Club (Away)

Geovany Quenda statistics vs Kairat Almaty
Quenda, who can play on the left or right flank, shone by scoring and assisting in the Champions League.
| Minutes played | Goals | Assists | Total shots | Chances created | Accurate passes | Successful dribbles | Match rating |
| 90 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 2 | 30/38 (79%) | 3/5 (60%) | 8.8 |
The left-footed Portuguese talent already looks mature beyond his years, making some outstanding decisions on the pitch when it comes to his end product. He’s holding his own at one of the biggest clubs in his country, too.
It is remarkable to think that Chelsea will be adding Quenda to a selection of wide players that already includes Pedro Neto, Estevao Willian, Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens.
