What Robert Sanchez has done more than any other goalkeeper in Europe while in goal for Chelsea this season

One position that Enzo Maresca has decided not to change at all this season in the Premier League is the goalkeeper role.

Robert Sanchez has not exactly thrilled supporters with his presence on the pitch this season, and has unfortunately had fingers pointed at him a number of times for goals conceded by the Blues this season.

John Obi Mikel has stated that Chelsea need to upgrade Sanchez if they are to challenge for major trophies again.

His tough performances continued at the weekend against Arsenal, with some blame being handed his way for Gabriel Martinelli’s opeing goal in the 1-1 draw.

Robert Sanchez has most errors leading to goals in Europe

Maresca has been loyal in his backing of Sanchez this season, although the statistics are not pretty reading for the goalkeeper at this moment.

As reported by WhoScored, no goalkeeper in Europe has committed more errors leading to a goal than Sanchez so far this season.

The three recorded errors have frustrated Chelsea fans, and left them calling for a change between the sticks.

Supporters have called for a signing like Emi Martinez to come in and revolutionise their backline.

Filip Jorgensen waiting to get his chance at Chelsea

This is despite the fact the Blues have actually signed a goalkeeper in the most recent summer transfer window in the form of Filip Jorgensen.

The Danish shot stopper has seen his minutes limited to cup competitions since he joined the club.

While Jorgensen has impressed when given the opportunity, Maresca has remained insistent that Sanchez is his Premier League goalkeeper at the moment, and he wants him to continue learning on the job when it comes to playing out from the back.

Sanchez will be hoping that this backing remains when he returns from international duty with Spain, and that he is still between the sticks when Premier League action is back with the trip to Leicester City as the run in to Christmas gets properly underway.
