Many people doubted Enzo Maresca when he took charge as the Chelsea manager in the summer, but he’s making a really impressive impact at the club. In particular, the Italian head coach has shown the personality and character to make big calls.
For instance, Raheem Sterling was exiled from the first-team group in pre-season before he joined Arsenal on loan.
The latest in a long line of bold calls from him was dropping both Noni Madueke and Renato Veiga from Chelsea’s matchday squad during the Boxing Day defeat to Fulham in the Premier League. Maresca confirmed he dropped Madueke and Veiga against Fulham for “technical reasons” that he wouldn’t explain any further.
