Journalist Matt Law has claimed that Christopher Vivell has been appointed as Technical Director of Chelsea.

The Blues have been keen to start hiring members for the board, after Todd Boehly began his tenure with a summer in control of a lot behind the scenes.

Vivell was relieved of his duties today by RB Leipzig, with the club citing a difference of opinion as the reasoning.

It had been reported that Vivell had been considered as one of a number of candidates for the job at the club, as Boehly looked to relieve himself of some of the duties he undertook.

It looked as if they were set to hire RB Salzburg’s Christoph Freund as the club’s new sporting director, after the Austrian side visited Stamford Bridge last month.

However, the club elected to keep the 45-year-old, despite the intriguing offer to work on the new project at the West London club.

It is unclear whether there will still be a demand to hire a sporting director in the coming weeks, with it being widely claimed that they were looking to fill the void before the World Cup began.

This ruled them out of the opportunity to hire former Liverpool man Michael Edwards, who despite being blown away by the project at Stamford Bridge is still keen to hold his leave of absence.

Blues fans should be delighted with the hiring. Boehly’s first window in charge was no doubt a successful one, however you can’t help but believe things may have been even smoother if there were football people in roles on the board.

Missing out on deals for the likes of Raphinha and Jules Kounde can certainly be put down to a naivety of those in charge of the transfers.
