In an interview with AS Diario, Cacereno player Carmelo Mereciano has slammed former Chelsea player Eden Hazard for his performance against his side in the Copa del Ray.

Real Madrid limped to a 1-0 win against their fourth-tier opposition, with a rotated albeit strong side.

The game saw a rare opportunity for Hazard to start, with his prospects falling off a cliff since he left Stamford Bridge in 2019.

However, the stats he produced pale in comparison to what Chelsea supporters remember from his illustrious time in West London.

He completed no dribbles in his 67-minute cameo, whilst also failing to register a shot on goal.

The dismal display didn’t go unnoticed by his opponents on the day. Mereciano has claimed that his performance was of someone who was simply not interested.

He said: “Hazard? It was like he didn’t care about the game. He didn’t want to take the ball, he didn’t run. He was totally unnoticed.”

The Belgian will be desperate to find some sort of form at club level again, after his international career came to an end.

The former captain retired after the Red Devils’ embarrassing group stage exit at the World Cup, where Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku missed a hatful of chances.

Hazard has been used as the measuring stick for a number of wingers at the club since his departure, following his extremely strong seven years at the club.

The latest comparison by Chelsea staff has been Omari Hutchinson, with them letting the former Arsenal man know of the similarities they see when they looked to convince him of joining.

Reports since his exit have consistently linked the 31-year-old with a move back to Stamford Bridge. However, he has claimed himself that he is unsure of where those rumours have frequently come from.
