Raheem Sterling claims he previously heard a conversation about Mauricio Pochettino that makes him very excited about his arrival at Chelsea next season.

After weeks of speculation, the Blues finally confirmed yesterday that Mauricio Pochettino is the new permanent head coach at Stamford Bridge. He’ll officially take charge on 1 July after signing a two-year deal, which includes the option of a further year.

The 51-year-old Argentine will be familiar to most Premier League stars from his five-year spell as Tottenham boss.

Now, Pochettino is tasked with trying to improve a group that drastically underachieved this season.

Blues attacker Raheem Sterling, 28, is one of the more senior figures in the dressing room that Pochettino will take charge of.

The Chelsea and England star delivered a very positive verdict over the weekend about his new incoming manager.

“From his time before at Tottenham, I heard a conversation about him and he’s the exact person that we need,” Sterling told Arab News.

“He will bring leadership, he will challenge players physically and mentally and I think he is going to come here and he is going to have the personality that everyone is going to respect. That’s what we need, someone in charge.”

Sterling’s debut season in Chelsea colours certainly didn’t go to plan. In fact, Sterling admitted himself last month that he’s not been performing anywhere near the standards he expects.

He finished the campaign with a modest return of nine goals in 38 games across all competitions, making him the club’s joint-top scorer this year with Kai Havertz.

We are confident Sterling can improve and get better next season with Pochettino at the helm.

Hopefully, the winger has a proper striker alongside him in attack to bounce off.
