Reece James has claimed in a Twitter Q&A that Chelsea teammates Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are the two most technically gifted players he has ever played with.

The pair have been stalwarts of the midfield at Stamford Bridge for a number of seasons now.

Jorginho in particular has become a favourite of a whole host of managers that have entered the club, despite being signed very much as a Maurizio Sarri purchase.

Even now with Graham Potter in charge, it has been difficult to leave the Italy international out.

Kovacic meanwhile has endured a rough season domestically.

The 28-year-old has been dealing with an ongoing knee injury that has plagued him ever since the start of the season.

This has obviously restricted him on the pitch, with him at times looking a shadow of the player who was one of Chelsea’s most valuable last season.

Despite differing seasons for both of them, James has still acknowledged them as the most technically gifted players he has ever played with.

When asked the question by a supporter, he said: “Probably Mateo Kovacic or Jorginho, both ridiculous to be fair.”

There have been murmurs regarding both midfielders that their times at Stamford Bridge could be coming to an end.

Jorginho’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has so far offered no indication that he will agree on a new deal to extend his stay.

Meanwhile, Kovacic is reportedly assessing his options, perhaps in the knowledge that there are likely big things to come in terms of investment from Todd Boehly.

Midfield is certainly an area the American will look to strengthen, with reports already suggesting they are interested in the likes of Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, who has recently crashed out of the World Cup in emotional style.
