‘You can see now’: Lewis Bate is convinced 19-year-old youngster will become a starter for Chelsea soon

Former Chelsea player Lewis Bate has claimed in an interview with The Telegraph that Carney Chukwuemeka will become a starter for Chelsea soon.

The teenager is yet to start a game for the Blues since his summer move from Aston Villa.

It was reported that Todd Boehly grew tired that Thomas Tuchel was not featuring the 19-year-old more before he was sacked.

He has certainly been given more opportunities since Graham Potter came to the club. He was given around 75 minutes against Manchester City in the Premier League last week.

Chukwuemeka impressed after replacing Christian Pulisic who went off injured, with many believing he would start in the FA Cup game that followed three days later.

Bate praises Chukwuemeka

He didn’t start in yesterday’s drubbing, however he has certainly put himself in the manager’s thinking for games going forward due to the injury crisis at Stamford Bridge.

Bate has claimed that he is convinced that the ability of Chukwuemeka means he will become an important member of the Chelsea first team very soon.

He said: “You can see now what a good player he is. He will be in the Chelsea first-team.”

Things didn’t work out quite as well at Stamford Bridge for Bate.

After a decade with the club’s youth setup, he left for Leeds United in an attempt to seek regular first team football.

The future for the Blues certainly looks as if it will consist of young stars, with plenty being signed in the last few months in order to fulfil that aim.

This month the Blues have already added Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana to their ranks this month, with the latter making his debut for the club in the second half of the FA Cup match yesterday.
