As things stand, Nicolas Jackson’s loan move from Chelsea to Bayern Munich is not going to happen.

While Bayern had reached an agreement to sign Jackson from Chelsea on loan with an option to buy, the Blues cancelled the deal following Liam Delap’s hamstring injury.

Chelsea have ordered Jackson to return to the UK, with the striker still in Germany after flying there to have a medical with Bayern.

This is not the first time that a Chelsea player has seen their loan move to another club shatter into pieces.

Marc Cucurella’s loan move to Manchester United in 2023 collapsed

In the summer of 2023, after a difficult debut season at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were willing to loan Marc Cucurella to Premier League rivals Manchester United.

According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, everything was practically agreed until both Chelsea and Cucurella became unhappy with United’s insistence on a break clause being included in the deal.

Ultimately, that saw the defender’s proposed move to Old Trafford collapse, much to the benefit of Chelsea. Fast forward to now, and Cucurella is one of the most important players at the club.

Speaking about Cucurella’s failed switch to United in detail, Romano said on his YouTube channel in September 2023: “A very concrete deal collapsed in the final 24-48 hours of the transfer window. Why? Because the loan deal for Cucurella from Chelsea to Manchester United was almost done after an initial request of around £7m, an initial bid from Manchester United for the loan fee I mean, around £1m, the two clubs were ready to close the deal for a £3m loan fee.

“There were some problems in the negotiations and one of the problems, probably the most important problem to mention, was about the break clause because Chelsea and the player side both rejected the break clause for the loan deal in January.”

If Jackson is forced to stay at Chelsea, Cucurella is someone he can learn from. The Spaniard has put any disappointment he had behind him and really kicked on.

While he has been told to report back to Cobham, The Chelsea Chronicle understands that a Jackson exit is still possible if the Blues can get a Delap replacement in before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Marc Cucurella now an automatic starter at Chelsea

Once seen as disposable like Jackson, Cucurella is now one of the first names on Enzo Maresca‘s teamsheet at Chelsea.

The left-back has started all three of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season, while last term he racked up 54 appearances.

When Cucurella was still at Brighton & Hove Albion, Jamie Carragher described the Spaniard as a “classy operator” in a chat with Sky Sports. At Chelsea, he has now proven to be just that.
