Chelsea opted not to sign £21m striker after launching initial enquiry

Despite negotiations running to the final minutes of the summer transfer window, Chelsea again did not address the striker position.

It seemed they put all their eggs in the final few days of the window in the Victor Osimhen basket, however remained insistent that the deal had to be done on their terms.

While this did not happen, it has been claimed Chelsea could return for Osimhen in January if they feel necessary.

Over the summer the Nigerian was certainly not the only player they were targeting for this role, with them assessing all their options across Europe.

One name who cropped up was Jonathan David, with him previously being a target of the club.

Ben Jacobs shocked Chelsea didn’t sign Jonathan David

It looked as if he was available for a far cheaper price than ever before too, with a fee of £21m being mentioned as what it may take to sign him.

Ben Jacobs has stated that he was actually surprised that Chelsea did not actually bring David in, after they launched an initial enquiry earlier this summer.

He said to ‘The Mighty Chelsea’: “All you’re kind of left with is David, who I’m surprised didn’t go by the way. They [Chelsea] made an enquiry, nothing moved there. That wouldn’t of inspired that many.”

Chelsea backing Nicolas Jackson

It looks as if Chelsea are putting a lot of faith in Nicolas Jackson to deliver the goods up front at Stamford Bridge.

He has got off to a good start to the season, which has contributed to him being awarded a new contract with a higher salary.

Chelsea believe Jackson is worth way more than what they signed him for, and he is in line for the majority of minutes up top for the upcoming months.

With there still being a need to find a regular place in the side for Christopher Nkunku, he may well be given an opportunity to see if he can keep up the goalscoring run he is on as a starter from the striker role.
