£50m Chelsea player prepared to sign a new contract, his future was ‘uncertain’ this summer

Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is now prepared to sign a new Chelsea contract after an excellent start to the season.

That is according to a report from talkSPORT.

They claim that Conor Gallagher, 23, had an ‘uncertain’ future at Stamford Bridge when the likes of Tottenham were sniffing around signing him in the recent summer transfer window. A lot can change in the space of two months, though!

It is understood that the Chelsea midfielder is open to penning a fresh contract after emerging as an important player this campaign. We’ve seen the box-to-box central midfielder shine since Mauricio Pochettino arrived as his head coach in the summer.

The report adds that the Blues were open to selling the England international for £50million this summer, but parties are now expected to begin talks over a new deal.

In fairness, Gallagher’s one of the first names on the team sheet when you base the Chelsea XI on form this season. There’s not many that would have predicted that before a ball was kicked this year.

With Reece James and Ben Chilwell both missing games this season, Gallagher’s even stepped up in games as the stand-in captain.

The academy graduate is bringing superb energy as a roaming midfielder in the line-up.

Chelsea boss Pochettino recently hailed Gallagher for the amount of running he gets through in games, as quoted by the club’s official website.

We still have question mark about Gallagher’s spot in the team once everyone’s fully fit, but you can’t argue he’s now an important member of Pochettino’s group.

If the Chelsea boss likes him, he should have the support of the fanbase.

He’s certainly playing a lot smarter than last season in Chelsea colours, with people often guilty of forgetting he’s still just a 23-year-old.
