Journalist Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport that Conor Gallagher may leave Chelsea if they sign another midfielder in the summer.
The England international was the subject of late Premier League interest last month as the midfielder merry-go round was in full effect at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues even received a £40m bid from Everton on the penultimate day of the window, however turned it down in favour of selling Jorginho instead.
The Italy international was in the final few months of his contract, and the club were happy to let him go when Arsenal made a respectable bid.
Chelsea did strengthen in the position in January too, although the addition didn’t come until the final few minutes of the transfer window.
Enzo Fernandez became the club’s record signing on deadline day, and has already impressed in his debut for the club at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher future uncertain
He is sure to be the face of the midfield in the coming seasons, and will likely be joined by more reinforcements in future transfer windows.
If this does happen, Jacobs has claimed that Gallagher is likely to be surplus to requirements at the club.
He said: “Gallagher is a possibility in the summer because Chelsea may well need outgoings and they can probably pull in £40m or so for Gallagher, which is a decent piece of business.
“If Chelsea are to bring in more midfielders Gallagher might go down the pecking order.”
The sale of Gallagher would result in a huge profit for the club, due to him coming up through the academy.
While he has certainly been handed more gametime under Graham Potter than he was the previous manager, it still looks as if regular time as a starter is more likely to come elsewhere for the young midfielder.
