Xabi Alonso has a few priorities to sort out this summer, and one of those will be a new goalkeeper. If Chelsea had their way, they would sign Mike Maignan in a heartbeat.
Milan goalkeeper Maignan has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea for much of the BlueCo era. The Frenchman has been considered one of Europe’s best for years, and Chelsea have admired from afar.
Chelsea are reportedly set to tweak their transfer strategy and sign more experienced players!
But Maignan has always remained loyal to Milan. The Italian side’s captain, Maignan signed a new five-year deal midway through the 2025-26 season and is now contracted to the Serie A side until June 2025.
However, there are doubts regarding Maignan’s future. The France international, who will be Didier Deschamps’ no.1 at the World Cup this summer, is open to an exit after Milan’s disappointing campaign.
Chelsea made a £15m bid to sign Mike Maignan last summer
With his previous contract due to expire at the end of the 25-26 season, Maignan was once again a target for the Blues last summer. Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport claims Chelsea tabled a bid for Maignan.

Indeed, the Blues attempted to get Maignan for a bargain fee of £15m last summer. With his contract running down, some clubs may have been open to a deal. But instead, Milan decided to reject the bid.
Now, GDS share how much it would cost for Milan to greenlight a sale for Maignan. They want a fee between £36m and £45m for the France stopper, meaning Chelsea will have to pay more than double.
If it is towards the latter end of that scale, it could be three times the amount they tried to sign him for last summer. Ultimately, it shows the power of getting a player to sign a new long-term contract.
Which other goalkeepers are on Chelsea’s shortlist?
Maignan is at the top of the list according to reports, but there are plenty of others on Chelsea’s radar. The Spaniard attended Chelsea’s training ground this weekend with his coaching staff, ahead of July 1.
Are you selling or keeping Filip Jorgensen this summer?🤔
Premier League trio Robin Roefs, Bart Verbruggen and Jordan Pickford are all listed as viable options this summer, as is Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi and Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa this summer.
Chelsea are also said to have made an offer for Roma’s Mile Svilar, but it has been turned down, with Roma keen to keep their no.1. Obviously, Chelsea will need to sell Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.
The latter has handed in a transfer request, citing a lack of game time. Both could go, especially with Mike Penders due to return to Stamford Bridge following a loan at Strasbourg. Many options for the Blues.
