Chelsea could have a great chance to sign one centre-forward who has been linked to them in the past in January.

Chelsea reportedly looked at several different strikers during the summer, including Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and Lille’s Jonathan David.

Duran ended up remaining at Villa, where he is thriving. The 20-year-old scored an excellent goal against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, helping Villa to beat the German club 1-0.

As for David, he also stayed put and guided his own side to victory in the Champions League last night. He scored a crucial penalty that saw off champions Real Madrid in a 1-0 win.

Jonathan David will not sign new contract

David is Lille’s most important player. The 24-year-old has already scored eight goals in 12 appearances this season, while he managed 26 in 47 last term.

However, Lille are desperate to sell David in the January transfer window, according to journalist Rahman Osman.

The Canada international is into the final 12 months of his contract and “won’t sign a new deal”, says Osman. As a result, his club want to move him on in the new year.

Chelsea spoke to David’s agent in the summer, but it did not come to anything. According to a report from GiveMeSport, Lille were willing to sell their forward for £30m at the time.

Will Chelsea make an offer for Jonathan David in January?

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Chelsea are not desperate to sign a new striker.

That is likely because of how well Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku have done so far this season.

In the Premier League, Jackson has scored four goals and provided three assists in six games. As for Nkunku, he has netted six times in all competitions.

If Chelsea do not view David as a significant upgrade on either player, you cannot see them moving for him. And they probably do not after not making an offer for the former Gent man in the last transfer window.
