Borussia Dortmund are now starting to think they can complete a piece of business with Chelsea in this January transfer window.
Apparently, German giants Dortmund believe they’ve got a good chance of signing Ian Maatsen from Chelsea this month.
The 21-year-old Blues player has had an interesting first half of the season at Stamford Bridge.
He must be frustrated that most of his 15 appearances this campaign have been off the bench. On top of that, Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino prefers to use the left-back further up the pitch as cover for the wide attacking positions.
We’re not overly surprised that the Dutch youngster is linked with a move away from West London in January.

The Telegraph has now claimed that German Bundesliga side Dortmund are ‘optimistic’ about signing Chelsea’s Maatsen.
It is explained that the clubs are yet to settle on a permanent or loan agreement. The Blues would rather complete a sale, while Dortmund would prefer a loan.
However, the report adds that there’s an expectation in Germany that an agreement will eventually be reached.
The clubs are believed to be in conversation already with talks underway. The player himself is likely to be keen on the move, too.
In addition, Dortmund’s interest in Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho has no direct impact on their pursuit of Maatsen.
Borussia Dortmund optimistic of signing Ian Maatsen
This would be quite some move for Maatsen if he can go from Chelsea’s bench to more minutes in Germany.
Dortmund sit 5th in the Bundesliga league table right now, plus they’re into the Champions League last 16.
Our confusion has been around Chelsea boss Pochettino overlooking Maatsen for the left-back spot this season, which is a role he played superbly in last year during a loan with Burnley.
Elsewhere, Soccer News reported last month that Ajax are keeping tabs on Maatsen right now.
