Chelsea are now about to receive a £40m bid from Brighton for Levi Colwill – a player Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to keep at Stamford Bridge.

That is according to the Evening Standard.

So, what is the latest on Levi Colwill and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the England Under-21 international has already been the subject of a £30m bid from Brighton after a stunning loan spell at the Amex Stadium during the 2022/23 campaign.

Colwill made 17 Premier League appearances as Brighton finished sixth and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.

Chelsea immediately rejected that £30m bid and have issued a firm hands-off warning, although Brighton are now set to try again with an improved £40m bid, as they know Pochettino must makes sales and also has plenty of depth in his centre-back department.

Colwill himself seems open to joining Brighton, and appeared to enjoy his time on the south coast.

The 20-year-old even forgot he played for Chelsea as jubilance took over following Brighton’s UEFA Europa League qualification, and talkSPORT believe he will force an exit if Pochettino cannot guarantee him regular playing time.

Chelsea surely won’t sell Levi Colwill

In our view, it would be a major surprise if Chelsea sold Colwill – mainly as the Blues risk upsetting Pochettino if they go ahead with the deal.

The Argentine is believed to be a huge admirer of the centre-back, who was called “fantastic” by Lewis O’Brien during a loan spell at Huddersfield.

According to The Times, Pochettino even wants Chelsea to offer Colwill a new contract on improved terms, having been left impressed by what he’s seen from the defender during his time out of football management.

Financially, it is surely tempting for Chelsea and Todd Boehly to accept £40m for a 20-year-old from the academy.

However, it appears cashing in on Colwill would not be appreciated by Pochettino, so Chelsea must stand firm and back the South American.
