Xabi Alonso has got his work cut out when it comes to sorting Chelsea’s wealth of options at centre-back this summer. As things stand, Chelsea have 10 centre-backs – and PSG have come calling.
Levi Colwill and Josh Acheampong are considered ‘untouchable’, while Jorrel Hato has arguably been Chelsea’s most-improved player over the last 12 months. But beyond that, Chelsea need to sell a few.
Chelsea have 10 centre-backs – who are YOU getting rid of? ❌
Colwill and Acheampong are 'untouchable'.
Trevoh Chalobah is a target for Como, while Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, Mamadou Sarr, Wesley Fofana, and Axel Disasi could be on the chopping block. The Blues are taking a look at Aaron Anselmino.
That’s even before Chelsea secure a deal for Maxence Lacroix, with a £50m bid expected. Chalobah has interest, but another centre-back is drawing interest and even Paris Saint-Germain have made a call.
Chelsea make right decision as PSG ask about Josh Acheampong
According to Ben Jacobs, Josh Acheampong is generating significant interest from the top clubs in Europe. Man City, Man United and Bayern Munich have all enquired about Acheampong, as have PSG.
Jacobs told The London Is Blue podcast that Chelsea have stood firm on Acheampong: “It’s going to be a pivotal season for Acheampong as he hopes to be more involved and gain more minutes.

“You’ve got some serious clubs that have inquired Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern. I was even told the other week PSG as well. But Chelsea are really firm here that Acheampong is not for sale.”
It comes after Chelsea and Alonso made Acheampong one of seven ‘untouchables’ at the club. Despite his lack of game time, Alonso sees Acheampong alongside the likes of Reece James and Cole Palmer.
Keeping Acheampong maintains excitement among Chelsea fans
With Alonso appointed, there is a sense of optimism among Chelsea fans again. The Blues fanbase want Acheampong to stay, he is an academy product, and given the churn of players, that is a rarity at Chelsea.
Chelsea have high hopes for Josh Acheampong under Xabi Alonso…
In the past, BlueCo have allowed the likes of Mason Mount, Lewis Hall and Conor Gallagher leave in order to balance the books. Alonso is keen to keep Acheampong, even if the youngster is said to be frustrated.
A move to PSG right now will tempt any player, and Acheampong might have even hoped Chelsea would consider a sale. But in a decision that will delight supporters, Chelsea have doubled down on their stance.
Getting decisions right this summer allows momentum to grow under Alonso. Selling an Acheampong this summer will annoy fans and leave a bad taste in the mouth ahead of the opener against Fulham.
