Chelsea already seem to be thinking about signings that they could make in the new year.

Chelsea were extremely busy during the summer transfer window, bringing in 11 new players, including Jadon Sancho.

The 24-year-old arrived on deadline day to strengthen the team’s attack, and Sancho is already dazzling Enzo Maresca in training.

Chelsea also improved their defence by bringing in Tosin Adarabioyo and Renato Veiga, but it looks like they could try to sign another defender in 2025.

Chelsea could sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in 2025

Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi was a key target for Newcastle United during the last transfer window.

In the end, though, the Magpies could not get a deal over the line for the 24-year-old. It has given Chelsea the chance to re-sign their former academy player in 2025, something they seem to be considering.

According to TBR, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Guehi’s situation at Palace following his failed £70m move to Newcastle and are ready to bring him back to Stamford Bridge in the new year.

The Blues sold Guehi to their London rivals back in 2021, not being able to find him a place in their first team.

Should Chelsea try to sign Marc Guehi next year?

There is no denying that Guehi has developed into a top defender at Palace. He is now an England international and played a huge role in the Three Lions reaching the Euro 2024 final.

However, Chelsea have Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana, who are also very good centre-halves.

They have been the team’s first-choice centre-back pairing this season. Colwill is pleasing his Chelsea bosses right now, while Fofana is finally fit again.

Ultimately, there is not a need for Chelsea to go out and spend £70m on another central defender. If someone leaves, though, or Fofana picks up another injury, then it becomes a bit of a different story. For now, however, Guehi does not need to be a priority for the club.
