Cesare Casadei has been strongly linked with a move away from Chelsea in the January transfer window, but he’s still currently on the club’s books.
It is a surprise that Cesare Casadei, 22, is still a Chelsea player right now because of all the speculation about his future.
Rumours last week claimed that Torino beat Lazio in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Casadei. However, there’s been no development or announcement about the Italian youngster’s future.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca previously admitted it’s best if Casadei leaves so he can go and play regularly elsewhere. This comes after just six first-team appearances for the Blues so far this season.

What Chelsea are confident of as Cesare Casadei update emerges
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are ‘confident’ of securing a ‘significant’ sell-on clause in the deal that will see Casadei leave the club this window.
It is explained that Serie A clubs Lazio, Torino and Fiorentina are still fighting to bring the central midfielder back to Italy.
The report says that the Chelsea player will cost around £13m, but the demand is there for a big sell-on clause because the feeling is he could still have a successful career.
Leicester City made an enquiry about signing Chelsea’s Casadei in January, but it looks like a move to the Italian’s homeland is still very much on the cards.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see the box-to-box midfielder do well in Serie A if he joins a club where he plays regularly. There’s a lot to admire about his game with many great physical attributes, but the competition in midfield is tough at Stamford Bridge.

Do Chelsea have enough in midfield?
Even though Casadei hasn’t played a major role at Chelsea this season in terms of minutes played, he’s still been a useful option on the bench. He’s been important in the club’s Conference League campaign so far, too.
Therefore, do the Blues have enough midfield cover if he leaves in the final few days of the January window?
Chelsea do have the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Romeo Lavia to play in the centre of the park. Admittedly, the latter is extremely injury-prone right now.
Interestingly, Chelsea are working to try sign Hellas Verona midfielder Reda Belahyane because he’s seen as someone who can replace Casadei. It feels like a sensible decision to bring in another central midfielder if he does go.
