Despite the transfer window not even being open yet, Chelsea look set to miss out on one of their targets.

Arrivals are expected at Stamford Bridge this summer, with Chelsea likely to sign a striker and defender.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, amid interest from Germany, Delap wants to remain in England in a boost to Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca could also see the arrival of a new goalkeeper, though one name may no longer be an option for his side.

Diogo Costa says yes to Manchester City

On Tuesday, it was reported that Chelsea were keen on £64m-rated Diogo Costa as they consider replacing Robert Sanchez.

Sanchez is currently Maresca’s first-choice goalkeeper, but the 27-year-old has made several mistakes this season.

However, it looks like Costa could be heading to Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester City instead.

According to journalist Santi Aouna, Costa has given his approval to a move to Pep Guardiola’s side this summer in a blow to Chelsea.

If the Blues really do want to sign a new shot-stopper, though, they do have other options. For example, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan could be on the market.

He has a year left on his contract, and it is thought that Chelsea have already enquired about signing Maignan.

What Diogo Costa has said about his future

Costa loves Porto, but when he spoke about his future last year, the Portuguese did not exactly rule out an exit.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Costa said: “What I always say is true — if I never leave Porto, the club I love and learned to play football in, then I will be a happy guy, but we all know what is the life of a footballer.”

With City and Chelsea both looking at Costa, it really would not be a surprise if he left Porto this summer.

Manchester United could also be an option for Costa, with the 25-year-old being linked to Old Trafford as well. Andre Onana has not convinced, so they may decide to sign a new No.1.

As things stand, though, the Etihad looks like the most likely destination for the Portugal international.
