Chelsea and other Premier League clubs have just been presented with a very interesting market opportunity.
It is unlikely that Chelsea will explore it, as the Blues have just signed Liam Delap and have other forwards on their shortlist. This time last year, though, they may have been all over it.
While another centre-forward could still arrive at Chelsea this summer, one may leave.
Nicolas Jackson’s future is up in the air at the moment following his red card at the Club World Cup and Delap’s arrival.

Chelsea thought about signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin in 2024
Before signing Delap, it was a well-known fact that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen was Chelsea’s main target for the striker position in the summer of 2024.
However, being such a difficult deal to pull off, at one stage, the Blues considered more than one alternative, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Towards the end of last August, it was claimed that Chelsea considered signing Calvert-Lewin.
Their interest came to nothing, but Calvert-Lewin is now available on a free transfer after failing to agree a new contract with Everton.
When Calvert-Lewin has remained fit, he has been able to score goals for the Toffees. In total, the 28-year-old has netted 71 times during his time at Goodison Park.
After one game last year, Sean Dyche described his performance as “excellent” (via TNT Sports). Still, it would be a bit of a surprise if Chelsea weighed up signing him again.
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Everton stats | Appearances | Goals |
| 2024/25 | 26 | 3 |
| 2023/24 | 39 | 8 |
| 2022/23 | 18 | 2 |
| 2021/22 | 18 | 5 |
| 2020/21 | 39 | 21 |
| 2019/20 | 41 | 15 |
| 2018/19 | 38 | 8 |
| 2017/18 | 44 | 8 |
| 2016/17 | 11 | 1 |
| Total | 274 | 71 |
Right now, Chelsea’s eyes seem to be on another Premier League forward, one who is much younger.

The Premier League forward Chelsea are now desperate to sign
Rather than Calvert-Lewin, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro appears to be the attacker Chelsea want.
It is thought that Chelsea have already had a bid for Pedro rejected. However, as is so often the case with Brighton, a big enough offer should convince them to sell.
The Conference League winners, though, have to be wary of Newcastle United’s interest, with the Magpies also circling.
