Chelsea are now being linked with a potential move to sign a young striker on loan in the final days of the January window.
Many fans would agree that one area of the Chelsea squad that needs improving is the centre-forward position. While Blues frontman Nicolas Jackson does provide a great option, his goalscoring can be hit and miss.
Chelsea have asked about Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran as they eye a potential transfer swoop.
On top of that, Enzo Maresca’s side are further linked with a different No.9 option.

Chelsea could make late move for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson
Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via his Substack that Chelsea could yet still make a ‘late dash’ to sign Brighton’s Evan Ferguson on loan.
The 20-year-old striker has been in and out of the Brighton side recently, scoring only once in 14 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs reports via X that Brighton’s Ferguson is attracting loan interest from Premier League rivals West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton in the final stages of the January window. The Seagulls are willing to loan out the Republic of Ireland international, so where will he be playing in the second half of the season?
Paul Barber, the CEO of Brighton, previously described Ferguson as an “incredible talent”.
The forward’s career has stalled recently due to a mixture of form and injuries, but it’s easy to forget he’s still so young. At the age of 20, he’s scored 13 goals in 59 Premier League appearances.

Evan Ferguson frequently linked to Chelsea
It’s not the greatest surprise to hear Ferguson and Chelsea mentioned in the transfer rumour mill during the final week of the mid-season window. That’s because the Brighton talent has been linked with the Blues on a regular basis in the last year.
Back in May, Chelsea’s recruitment team loved Brighton striker Ferguson. Furthermore, it was claimed in September that Chelsea scouts would attend Brighton games to watch Ferguson this season.
It’s obvious that his reputation has taken a slight dip because of a drop off on the South Coast, but a loan move for him in 2025 does feel like a great way for him to get back on track.
From Chelsea’s perspective, Ferguson does fit the profile as a conventional No 9 that they need. The risk is that they could help raise his transfer value if he shines during a loan spell with them.
