Chelsea could still make a phenomenal double swoop on deadline day for Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Speaking on the Transfer Mailbag, Ben Jacobs suggested that the Stamford Bridge chain of command might make a sensational pair of transfers in the final hours of the window.
Signing Fernandez from Benfica remains the top priority for the South West London club.
Benfica president Rui Costa is seemingly the stumbling block between the Blues buying Fernandez.
The appropriate money has been offered – the £106m that will cover the midfielder’s release clause – yet the suggestion of it being paid in instalments has thrown Costa.
However, his viewpoint could change as the day progresses and Chelsea keep pushing.
Should Todd Boehly and his team get this over the line, they might quickly turn their attention to capturing Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion as well.
“Chelsea ultimately want two if not three midfielders in that area, whether they are defensive midfielders, versatile midfielders or attacking midfielders,” explained Jacobs.
“If Enzo Fernandez comes in, tomorrow they could go and sign Moises Caicedo. That is not impossible. It’s one to watch until the final seconds of the window.”

Caicedo has always been viewed as the alternative should Chelsea fail to land Fernandez.
But now, Graham Potters employers appear to view them as potential partners.
Boehly’s crew have attempted to prize the Ecuador international from Brighton already this month, with their approaches so far hitting a brick wall.
The South Coast club are reportedly asking for £90m to let go of Caicedo.
Will Chelsea have enough in the bank for this and a record-deal for Fernandez?
