Chelsea ditch summer move for Alejandro Garnacho to focus on signing ‘top target’ this summer

Chelsea have reportedly shifted their focus away from Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho to focus on someone else in the summer transfer window.

Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho, 20, has been strongly linked with the Blues in recent times.

Back in January, Enzo Maresca wanted Chelsea to sign Alejandro Garnacho. Instead, the Argentine attacker stayed put at Old Trafford, where he’s enjoying an impressive individual campaign.

Even though Alejandro Garnacho would be open to joining Chelsea as he continues to be on their transfer radar for the summer, fresh reports suggest that the Blues are shifting their focus elsewhere.

Chelsea ditch Alejandro Garnacho interest to focus on Jamie Gittens

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea have ‘cooled their interest’ in Man Utd star Garnacho.

It is explained that they’ve now made Borussia Dortmund wide man Jamie Gittens their ‘top target’ for the summer.

The report adds that the focus is on the 20-year-old Englishman despite the previous contact over signing Garnacho.

Gittens, who’s enjoyed a strong season in the German Bundesliga with Dortmund, is another attacker frequently linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge. It’s interesting to hear that Chelsea are now shifting their attention onto him.

Previous reports suggested Chelsea are favourites to sign Jamie Gittens, who’s dreaming of playing in the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Jamie Gittens’ release clause this summer will be determined by where Dortmund finish in the German league. The winger’s clause will be around €60m (£51m) if Dortmund sneak into the Champions League positions, but it could drop as low as €50m (£42m) in a worst-case scenario for the Bundesliga giants.

Jamie Gittens’ form in Borussia Dortmund’s last 10 games

Borussia Dortmund expect to sell Jamie Gittens at the end of the season, so perhaps it’s no major surprise that he’s had less and less minutes as the campaign’s progressed. On top of that, he’s struggled since Niko Kovac took charge as the new manager midway through the season.

Here is a look at Gittens’ record in Dortmund’s previous 10 matches:

Gittens possesses the pace, skill and directness on the left wing to be an exciting addition for Chelsea if they decide to ramp up their interest.

However, our familiar concern is that the Blues continue to avoid bringing in experienced professionals to help all the emerging youngsters.
