Chelsea are closing in on finally announcing the signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens after weeks of chasing the deal.

The Blues wanted to bring the Englishman in before the Club World Cup got underway, however did not want to be overcharged to bring him in before the tournament.

They never walked away from the deal though. Dortmund are already eyeing up their Gittens replacement ahead of their new domestic season.

The Blues have remained in talks with the Bundesliga side while both clubs have competed in the Club World Cup in the United States, with all the signs pointing towards the deal being in the final stages.

Chelsea give in to Borussia Dortmund’s £55m demands for Jamie Gittens

With a big reason behind the deal not being done yet being Gittens’ price tag, there was a lot of talk over who would get their way in terms of the transfer fee paid by Chelsea.

As per German outlet BILD, it looks as if it is the Blues who are going to give in, with them set to reach Dortmund’s demands of £55m to sign the winger this summer.

The Blues may have had to speed up their negotiations for the youngster after it became clear that Bayern Munich were showing interest in Gittens too.

However, it has been claimed that personal terms have been agreed for a long time between both parties, with him clearly keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Can Jamie Gittens play at the Club World Cup for Chelsea?

If the Blues complete this signing in the coming days, there is a chance it will be done before the Blues are back in action at the Club World Cup.

They will face Benfica, while Gittens is unlikely to build on his limited minutes so far in the competition in their next game.

However, as per FIFA’s rules, after being called up to Dortmund’s squad in the first place, he is now ineligible to feature for another side at the competition.

This is the same story for incoming winger Estevao Willian, who will join Chelsea upon Palmeiras’ exit from the Club World Cup.
