Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will have a say on transfers next month.
That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
However, according to Jacobs, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley will still be the ones spearheading Chelsea‘s recruitment. He stated on X that “regarding January”, the pair will continue to lead things at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues were extremely busy in the last transfer window, but it looks like Mauricio Pochettino wants even more signings.
After Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Everton over the weekend, the Argentine said in an interview that the club will try to improve the squad in January.

Who should be in charge of transfers at Chelsea?
It will obviously help the manager if he is able to sign his own players and veto the ones he does not want.
And Chelsea’s critics will be quick to point out what Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have been able to achieve by bringing in footballers that they actually want, rather than what has been recommended by the club.
However, Chelsea chop and change manager so frequently, while Pochettino only signed a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Considering that, it makes sense that Stewart, Winstanley and Joe Shields are the ones running the show.
That being said, the majority of the signings Chelsea have made under Stewart and Winstanley’s stewardship have not performed. Another poor transfer window, and the club are going to have to have a serious rethink about their recruitment strategy and the ones currently leading it.
So much money has been spent on young players who have just not been able to deliver. For more than one reason, this cannot keep going on. It is hurting Chelsea on and off the pitch.
Making all of these signing without Champions League revenue, which would normally help balance things out, could see the club break the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.
