Chelsea could try to bring in a new midfielder this summer, despite having options at the club and out on loan.
Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have been Enzo Maresca‘s two first-choice midfielders this season, while Romeo Lavia has been rotated in for some games.
Lavia’s fitness has become a major issue, but Chelsea have Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu out on loan. Either, if not both, can be added to the first-team squad next term.
Nevertheless, the Blues still appear to be looking at midfielders. With some big games coming up, Maresca will want to have Lavia back soon as Chelsea try to finish the campaign strongly.

Chelsea make Tijjani Reijnders enquiry
At the end of last year, it was reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Tijjani Reijnders.
Since then, Reijnders has put pen to paper on a new contract, but the Blues’ interest still looks to be there, while AC Milan do not seem to be ruling anything out.
According to Calciomercato, Chelsea have enquired about signing Reijnders and have an “excellent” relationship with his club after allowing the likes of Joao Felix and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to join them.
While Reijnders’ new contract runs until 2030, the same outlet claims that no Milan player will be untouchable this summer if Sergio Conceicao’s side fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Milan are currently ninth in the Serie A table, 11 points behind fourth-placed Juventus, so it is a real possibility.
It is good news for Chelsea, then, with their interest in the 26-year-old looking quite serious. Chelsea have also been linked with Kobbie Mainoo, so the Manchester United youngster is another midfielder they could make a move for in the next transfer window.

Tijjani Reijnders’ current stance
Unsurprisingly, after signing a new long-term contract, Reijnders’ desire is to remain at the San Siro.
Calciomercato’s report claims that the Dutchman is “very happy” at Milan and has “no intention” of leaving the club this summer. Of course, if the Rossoneri do not qualify for Europe’s elite competition, then he may not have much of a say.
Ideally, Milan will want to keep Reijnders, with the Netherlands international being a top midfielder.
“Tijjani is a super complete midfielder with good acceleration,” his national team boss Ronald Koeman told De Telegraaf (via Milan News) last year.
But with Chelsea circling and Champions League football next season not guaranteed, it looks like the former AZ Alkmaar man could be sold in the summer.
