Chelsea could now sign a player who almost broke Mauricio Pochettino’s nose in Leandro Paredes.

Martin Arevalo of ESPN Argentina believes Chelsea have made contact with PSG over a deal to sign the Argentina international.

If Chelsea do manage to reunite Mauricio Pochettino with Paredes – the pair worked together at PSG – the South American tactician will not want to let his guard down on the touchline.

What’s the story?

Well, after Kylian Mbappe scored a 94th minute winner against Real Madrid in the Champions League back in February 2022, Paredes got a bit carried away with the celebrations.

GOAL quote Pochettino as saying: “I felt two things. The first was joy, then Paredes ran towards me and hit my nose with his chest, and I thought I had broken it. I called our doctor and told him ‘I think I have broken my nose’.

“I was wearing this mask and thought I had broken my nose. So I had these two feelings, the joy followed by the pain in my nose.”

Fortunately, the 51-year-old did not suffer a broken nose, and he seemed to hold no ill feelings towards his fellow countryman for the accidental clash.

Therefore, Pochettino and Paredes will most likely laugh about the situation if they are reunited at Chelsea.

PSG will let Paredes leave for Chelsea as Pochettino eyes reunion

If the 28-year-old expresses an interest in joining Chelsea this summer, it doesn’t sound as if PSG will prevent him from leaving.

An update from Fabrizio Romano claims that the Parisians will let Paredes leave the Parc des Princes on favourable conditions as they attempt to offload him.

The Argentine could have joined Juventus after spending the 2022/23 campaign on loan in Turin.

However, the Italian giants have decided not to turn his loan into a permanent deal.

Therefore – if Chelsea really are interested in signing Paredes this summer – it sounds like the transfer won’t actually be that difficult to complete.
