Chelsea have now made rapid defender one of their top targets

Chelsea brought in a couple of players who can play at centre-back during the summer transfer window.

Tosin Adarabioyo joined Chelsea from west London rivals Fulham, while Renato Veiga arrived from Basel.

Wesley Fofana is also fit again, so Enzo Maresca is not exactly lacking central defenders right now. The 23-year-old has missed just one Premier League game this season, and that was because of suspension.

However, it looks like Chelsea could still sign another centre-half in the new year.

Chelsea leading race for Jonathan Tah

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah is a player who has been linked to Chelsea for a while.

In fact, it has been claimed that Chelsea have a dossier on Tah, so it looks like the club have been following him for a long time.

They could now make a move for the 28-year-old, with CaughtOffside reporting that he is now one of Chelsea’s top targets.

Other clubs are also said to be interested in Tah, but the same outlet claims that Chelsea are the ones leading the race for his signature.

Who else is interested in Jonathan Tah?

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are just a few other clubs who are keen on Tah.

It is not hard to understand why Tah is attracting so much interest. The German was a standout player for Leverkusen last season as they went on to win the Bundesliga title undefeated, while he also has some very good attributes.

For example, Tah is a defender who can recover well thanks to his pace. “He’s physically strong and very quick,” former Germany manager Joachim Low was quoted as saying by the Bundesliga’s official website.

Tah’s contract expires next summer, meaning that Chelsea could end up signing him for nothing. If that happens, then you will be looking at one of the deals of 2025. Until then, Maresca will have to continue relying on the likes of Fofana, Adarabioyo and Levi Colwill, who are definitely not bad options.
