Chelsea have dossier on ‘ambitious’ defender after following his whole career

Central defence is not an area where Chelsea are light at this moment in time.

While Thiago Silva may have left Chelsea during the summer, Tosin Adarabioyo joined the club from Fulham on a free transfer.

It means that Enzo Maresca has Adarabioyo, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi to choose from when picking his two central defenders.

Colwill and Fofana are working well together right now and Chelsea do not look in need of another centre-back. However, the Blues have recently been linked with one defender in the Bundesliga.

Chelsea have watched Jonathan Tah for a long time

Earlier this month, it was reported in Germany that Chelsea are interested in Jonathan Tah.

And now, journalist Christian Falk has claimed that the Blues have a “dossier” on the Bayer Leverkusen star and have been following his career.

On Substack, Falk wrote: “Chelsea were always interested in Tah. They have a dossier on the centre-back and have followed his whole career, but because of the financial pressure the Premier League now also feels, they made a decision internally that new players should just earn £70,000-a-week.

“So, you see, that’s perhaps a third of the amount Bayern would be prepared to pay for him, so it will be very hard for Chelsea to get Jonathan Tah next summer.”

Bayern Munich were the favourites to sign Tah at one stage during the summer, but the 28-year-old remained at Leverkusen in the end.

Chelsea would have to make room for Jonathan Tah

If Chelsea do plan to make a swoop for Tah in 2025, then they are probably going to have to move someone else on.

Disasi would be one candidate to go. The Frenchman is quite low in the pecking order right now, with his minutes this season coming at full-back, while Chelsea seemed open to letting him go in the summer.

Chelsea weren’t against a Disasi departure when the transfer window was still open, so you cannot rule out him leaving.

Leverkusen have done extremely well under Xabi Alonso, winning the Bundesliga title last season.

However, Tah is an “ambitious” player, according to his former manager Gerardo Seoane, who was quoted as saying that by the Bundesliga’s official website.

Eventually, the Germany international may want a new challenge and fancy testing himself at a higher level. That could see him consider a move to Chelsea if they come knocking next year.
